So do you remember that lazor machine thatcould zap the shattered glass off of an iPhone in just a few minutes? Well that same companymade another machine that can remove scratches from cellphone screens. Now we’re all prettyfamiliar with scrapings at this site, you are familiar with, they start at tier 6 with deeper groovesat a level 7. Today we’re going to test out this machine, see if it operates, and appreciate whatlevel of scratches it can actually remove.Let’s get started.[ Intro] So right off the bat this machine is a beast. We’re probably not going to buy one of these for your front room, but at the same timeit’s nice to know they exist so if your screen ever has blemishes you can get it sterilized. Soinside of this machine we have a polishing pad down here at the bottom, along with alittle coolant hose pump thing that we would normally examine on a CNC machine or a metal bandsaw. And the whole concept behind this is that we are going to remove a microscopiclayer of glass off of the surface of this display. And we’re going to do that with science. We need something harder than a degree 6 on Mohs scale of hardness. So in our particularcase we’re going to use a super punishment pulverize called cerium oxide. Each of these insignificant pulverizedfragments of dust are harder than a elevation 6 on Moh’s scale of hardness. So we’ll measureit out and add it to distilled water to induce that spell sauce that removes scratches fromsmartphones. We’re employ distilled water because thereare no minerals and it determines it slightly more safe for a cellphone. Even if a cellphoneis watertight, “youve never” actually want to test it’s liquid resistance. It’s dangerous. Soif you’re thinking about lift the scratches from your telephone, you do have to weight thepros and cons. One, you’re getting rid of your scratchings, but two, you’re putting yourphone in an abrasive liquid…let’s just see how it turns out. This is one of the phones I’ve taken apartfor my durability tests and teardowns. As you can see from the blemishes at level 6and deeper thickets at a tier 7. And there are quite a lot of other scrapings since thisphone is in use currently. So this is the before shot and let’s hope that the aftershot searches a little cleaner. The lily-white plastic mold is just to hold thephone ensure while the machine is doing it’s work. And the blue glue, that waterproof sealant, is helping maintain that milky abrasive from entering in through the microphone punctures, around theedge of the screen, or through the earpiece all of which are ingress places insideof the phone, which is where we don’t want that milky liquid to be. Once we’re done caulkingaround the edge of the phone, we can positioned it inside of the UV light which remedies the adhesive.Very same to the adhesive we spend on the glass only Apple Watch repair we did lastyear. Once the adhesive is dried we can take the plastic mold and drop it into the metalmold, which is what the machine seizes onto when it’s make the polishing. And since thewaterproofing adhesive is now solid, the polishing abrasive should stay out of the phone. So this is my first time applying this machineso it’s going to be interesting to see how it goes. This puck right here helps keep thephone in place while we determined it on top of the polishing pad, right up against those twowheels.Just so you can see, the phone is still in there and still alive for the moment.Position the abrasive spitter outter. Now we can turn it on. Emergency kill switch. And I can stumble start. Now I’m sure usually this is supposed to be down, but we’re notabout that animation, so we’re going to go ahead and take a look from the inside. So rightnow we have the abrasive liquid, which we can kind of just spray wherever we want. Thishas a little magnetic locate to it. But if we leant it here in the center, the centrifugalforce of the spinning pad kind of attracts the liquid out towards the edge. But the puckis also spinning around. And I presuppose it’s spinning to kind of help remove that microscopiclayer of glass uniformly across the surface without having orders invited to participate in a single direction. So we just finished five minutes in this glass resurfacer, but I think it’s time we see ifthe phone is still alive or not. It’s got the liquid all over it.And astonishingly, the different levels 6 and tier 7 deeper grooves are both just gone. Now of course, by removinga microscopic seam off the surface area of the screen, we’ve also removed the oleophobiccoating on the priorities in the glass, but we can bring that back easy enough. I’ll go myrazor blade and pop out the adhesive smother the phone. All the blue goo is turned intoa hard-boiled plastic, and it’s fairly difficult to get wise out since the plastic molding is exactlyshaped to the sides of the phone. This of course is an iPhone mold, but I know theyhave moldings manufactured for other telephones as well. To get that oleophobic back in place, allwe have to do is clean off the screen really well. So you can see how the screen reactswhen I include isopropyl alcohol to the surface. It merely kind of stays in one spot and runsoff the leading edge of the screen. But you can see it’s putting to the glass surface, whichmeans that the oleophobic veneer is gone and that oleophobic veneer is what keepsyour fingerprints from going the screen dirty.Once the screen is totally clean, then I cantake the oleophobic finishing, quit a duet puts on the top, rub it in, and then throwit in that UV light for another 30 seconds. And when it comes out you can see that thealcohol, instead of sticking to the screen, is kind of beading up on the surface of thephone which is exactly what we’re looking for. Now the phone is pretty much back tothe factory scratch-free finish, and is still fingerprint resistant. Now I do have one ofmy iPhone XR’s and as you can see from the screen, we still have the level 6 blemishes, with deeper grooves at height 7. Now , naturally I stop at a statu 7 because any more damagewould be, you know, excess. But I think today we can make an exception. If you phoneever sustained a rank 8 scraping in real world, the reality is it would probably be broken. They are more like determines in the screen. And well, a tier 9 scratch is something entirelydifferent all by itself. And a statu 9, instead of being determines is more scoring the glassand cracking it all the way through.I doubt we can get rid of a level 9 blemish. Alright we have the level 6 scrapings, level7 deeper groove, grade 8 approximates, and degree 9 a score across the surface of the glass.Let’s see what can be removed. We have everything positioned. We’re just going togo for another 5 minutes on this round, but I want to show you the back here. This isthat milky abrasive liquid that is just being pulled up through the spout, through the tubes, all the way inside through this adjustable spout. And once again, we’re just removinga tiny bed off of the surface of that telephone. But is it tiny layer enoughfor stage 8 guess? Precisely if you’re bizarre, this is kind of likea shag carpet precisely chilling there like a doormat. And the phone. It’s nice and milky. It stillturns on. Let’s cool it off and threw it under the illuminated. So we can already learn just fromthis igniting right here that 6 and 7 are already gone, but levels 8 and 9 are stillthere. Now personally, I mull stage 9 is going to be there forever. But let’s throwit in one more time for 5 more instants and see if we can get level 8 to disappear a littlemore. So it have already had been 25 instants. We left itin for quite a bit longer cuz those rank 8 gauges are pretty rough. Well, we made progress.Let’s get it under the daylight. So it looks like the level 6 scrapings and the different levels 7deeper trenches are wholly removed after those first 5 minutes … minus the one little divotfrom the different levels 7 where I assume the collect exactly guessed out the glass a little. But thelevel 8 gauges and the level 9 compose continue to exist, even after 25 minutes from the abrasivepad. So overall I’m fairly astonished. The machine can probably handle scratches thathappen to your phone with every day life. You know, whether it’s in your pocket or yourpurse. Anything from a regular height 6, to a deeper flute degree 7. But anything thattakes a chunk out of the glass, the machine’s not going to be able to handle. In reality, if you got a level 8 or 9, the screen’s probably cracked at the same time so you have a biggerissue on your hands. So if you’ve had your telephone for a pair years and you want it tolook like new again, there’s a good chance this machine can assist you out. But, once again, you gotta weigh the pros and the cons. You are putting your phone in liquid and thatcould be game over. But with enough safety at the edges, it should turn out just fine.I’ll leave a link for this machine down in the video description. This video’s not sponsored.Huge thanks to FIXD for letting me borrow their machine for this video. And let me knowwhat you think. Would you risk your phone to get rid of some scratchings? I’m curious. Come hang out with me on Instagram and Twitter.Hit that agree button if you haven’t already. And thanks a ton for watching. I’ll see youaround ..
